CANCUN SHOPPING

Playa

Shopping in Cancun does not leave room for guilt with the hypnotizing array of items displayed in the main shopping districts of Cancun.

Unique shopping malls and souvenirs markets are found at the Hotel Zone, while other malls and open markets for handcrafts typical from the region or from other parts of Mexico are worth the commute into the city.

Cancun Shopping at the Hotel Zone

If you decide to explore the shopping opportunities at the Hotel Zone of Cancun, you have to save at least a day to stroll under “La Isla” canopy. La Isla has the best location on Kukulkan Boulevard, close to most hotels and facing Nichupte Lagoon. Its sophisticated architecture and design can remind you of some of the wonders of the world. La Isla houses over 150 shops, one of Sergio Bustamante’s art galleries (a Mexican renowned artist), interesting carts, multiple restaurants and nightclubs, including: Hooters, and Planet Hollywood.

But if browsing stores is not your cup of tea, the Aquarium of Cancun located right at one of the ends of La Isla, can be enough incentive to pay a visit to the mall. Who does not love swimming with dolphins?

Movie theaters are also found in La Isla, as well as jewelries, more international designer stores and the deceiving view of the sky touching the lagoon.

At Plaza Caracol (Snail Mall) shaped as a snail, it is very easy to keep walking in circles before you find the exit doors. Inside this shopping center, a great variety of clothing stores, two art galleries, Mexican handcraft outlets and beautiful restaurants will await you.

Kukulkan Plaza covers a surface of about 60,000 square meters. Kukulkan Plaza does not only have the most selected and priciest shops and restaurants but also a bowling alley.

There are smaller malls like Plaza Flamingos, across from Flamingo Hotel on Kukulkan Boulevard. It specializes in beach wear stores and it is home to great seafood restaurants.

Handcrafts, inexpensive silver jewelry, tattoos and braids are the offerings that you get when walking through Forum Plaza, where most souvenirs outlets sell their goodies.

Shopping in Cancun City

In Cancun city the place to go for tourists is Mercado 28, where similar wares to the ones displayed at the Hotel Zone are sold, but at a lower price.

As mentioned before, there are important malls and supermarkets in the city, that usually cater to the locals, but even tourists can find interesting items in their stores. Some of them are Plaza Las Americas, which is the biggest in downtown, Plaza Hollywood, Plaza Nayandei, and we recommend you to visit them if your intention is to get more of the flavor of this prosperous city.
